What has not been really spoken of is their jewel collection. Below is a picture of a lady with some huge jewels, they are in direct comparison to the Egyptian/Turkish/ Ottoman ones spoken of by Janet. And their jewellery collection is in fact rather modest given the princely family's enormous wealth. Their art collection – comprising mainly pieces from the early Renaissance to the Baroque (paintings, sculptures, furniture) – is exquisite though. You might be interested to have a look at the Liechtenstein Garden Palace in Vienna where large parts of the collection were exhibited until a couple of years ago. The lady in your photo, Zeneïde Skobelev, was married to Eugen Maximilianovich, Prince (later 5th Duke) of Leuchtenberg, a descendant of Napoleon's first wife Josephine de Beauharnais.

I think these were later bought off the family by the Tsar.
