Board will be a closed forum for two days next week
Posted by Beth on December 8, 2019, 7:51 am
On Tuesday next week I will make the board a closed forum for two days.
Members will be able to access the board by logging in.
I would like board members to consider several questions.
1. Should I continue the board?
2. If so, what areas would members like the board to discuss? There is no guarantee that these topics can be handled immediately as perhaps no one has the expertise.
3. Should the board always be a closed forum?
After those who would like to contribute an opinion have done so, I will delete all the discussions before re-opening the board as a public forum.
I am hoping that by doing this, members will be more likely to contribute an opinion.
My concern is that very few ever express an opinion and a board dominated by me is very, very boring.
Re: Board will be a closed forum for two days next week
Beth' your concerns and considerations are valid. We have covered so much material we may be running out of further jewel topics.
Added to that is the change in behaviours of royalty and the aristocracy where their are very few note worthy events that jewels are the main focus.
If your decision is to continue this forum, maybe we may have to just discuss the main or state events, like a coronation, wedding, or opening of parliament. But whatever it should remain open. My own feelings is that many persons are quiet observers who may prefer not to make any contributions. And anything or anyone rises and falls with the times.
But otherwise, persons can become fully consumed in their personal and professional lives and may have little time to even delve into their hobbies and with the holidays and so forth people become distracted.
But whatever decision you make Beth, I'll support it, 'you have done a lot of work and has totally indulged my own personal fancy where without your input I would have remained ignorant to many things.
Thank you always.
Dave.

1. Yes! I have so many topics that I would like to discuss on this board, but limitations of time and the length and breadth of my research means that it will take a long time. This board has a part in my daily routine, and I instinctively check for updates first thing after I wake up every morning and periodically throughout the day, and look forward to seeing all the discussions, as an escape.
2. I loved how you discussed jewels from the Cartier Exhibition in Australia at the start of the board, and would love to see more of that. I really enjoy the in depth discussion, and that non-royal jewels are equally as welcome on this board.
2019 has been a relatively jewel-light year, but hopefully next year will bring a lot more glitter and give us a lot more to discuss.
3. I agree with Dave that the board should be an open forum as there are many people that view and follow all the discussions but do not contribute, myself included. I followed RJWMB for three years before being registered as a members, and learned a lot from it being an open forum.
Even now, when I follow the discussions, it can take a few days before I have the time to gather my thoughts and research and post a response.

Personally, I don't add much to the discussions because I don't follow the royal jewels that closely and most of you know much more than me. Its a lot like learning antiques .....you look a lot before you buy anything...

I echo your thoughts exactly. Having only joined in the past few months, I'd be very sad if the board was wrapped up.
