Spanish, Austrian & German jewels sold at auction
Posted by Janet on December 16, 2019, 9:00 am
I peruse Dinastas, a great forum in Spanish (which I do not speak) about jewels and three particular posts by a poster called choquero25have caught my eye and I wanted to share them.
The emeralds of the Duchess of Franco, Carmen Martínez-Bordiú.
A tiara belonging to Victoria Luise pf Prussia, Duchess of Brunswick
Corsage and earrings of diamonds and emeralds auctioned in the 1950s by the Archduchess Elisabeth, daughter of Crown Prince Rudolf and Crown Princess Stephanie.
The poster asserts that the emerald earrings were once owned by Empress Carlota, Crown Princess Stephanie's aunt.
The Franco emeralds, what a site. I'm still in quite awe at the emerald necklace worn by QE2 at the diplomatic reception at BP. That necklace is extremely grand and I dear say must be valued upwards 5 mill. If the emerald necklace worn by QE2 is a legacy piece from the late QEQM, she must have been quite modest and laid back about her jewels as the necklace was not outted by her in her lifetime, can you imagine just not wearing something as beautiful as that leaving same in a cupboard somewhere. It does make one wonder what else is in HM's collection. I would like to know the provenance i.e. who made it or owned it before the assumed Madame Greville? But it does look like something straight out of the Romanov Imperial family. Sorry to go on about another topic Janet, its just that the emerald necklace worn by QE2 has made an indefinite imprint on my mind.
Regards,
Dave.

the answer of your question, was in the link which you had also could found on the same side:
The Countess Andrassy wore the Angouleme emerald tiara, together with her famous emeralds, in the picture in 1896. The pear-shaped emerald pendant necklace was later seen ONCE! on Crown Princess Stephanie of Austria.
I am now totally confused as Janet was not asking about the emerald tiara.
As far as I can see the emerald corsage ornament (for which Janet posted an image & which also shows earrings said to have belonged to Empress Carlotta) bears no relationship to the emerald necklace seen in the painting of Countess Andrassy, which you date to 1896.
Could you clarify for me what the connection is, please?
Is there an image of Crown Princess Stephanie wearing the emerald and diamond corsage ornament?
How and when were the corsage jewel and the earrings acquired by Count Andrassy?
Where did the information, that the earrings belonged to Empress Carlotta, come from?"
It is a fascinating topic which I think we would all enjoy reading about.

I really appreciated how you provided us with links to the Dinastas Board which allowed us all to explore the links provided by Choquero25 at our leisure, and to see where the information originated.
