Queen Mary donating a jewel
Posted by Beth on March 16, 2020, 6:43 pm
In 1941 Queen Mary donated a pearl and enamel pendant to the Aberdeen branch of the ATS Comfort Fund. Other royal ladies also made donations. The other item of jewellery, an amethyst cross, was donated by Princess Beatrice.
The photo in the first newspaper item is very blurry.
Fortunately, I was able to find one good photo of Queen Mary's donation.
Unfortunately the item which gave the information about Princess Beatrice's cross will not load onto Photobucket.
What intrigues me is whether this pendant belonged personally to Queen Mary or whether she commissioned it to use either as a gift or for a donation. I noticed that the jewellery case says that the firm held a royal warrant from Queen Mary.
Queen Mary may have worn this pearl and enamel pendant :

What a great memory you have Franck! It certainly looks as if it could be the donated jewel. The shape is the same and it has pearls. How I wish that we could see some more detail in the photo showing Queen Mary!
