Favourite tiaras. Sweden. Braganza tiara
Posted by Beth on March 27, 2020, 7:13 pm
I find it almost impossible to state what is my favourite tiara, especially as one individual tiara will suit one lady, but not another.
One tiara which I think looks superb on a number of ladies is the Braganza tiara which belongs to the Swedish royal family.
The tiara has a certain romantic appeal, it is a major wall of diamonds, suits a number of ladies (unlike some major tiaras) and, for royal ladies, conveys a sense of grandeur when that is needed but, above all, I enjoy the history of this jewel.
Queen Silvia wearing the jewel.
I feel that this elaborate, floral tiara softened Queen Louise's austere features, and so suited her.
Queen Louise.
Perhaps others have good photos of other Swedish Queens wearing this tiara to share.
Hello Beth. I agree, the Braganza is one of the most beautiful tiaras around. Despite its size, it somehow manages to flatter it's wearer!
Interestingly, in the upcoming documentary about the Swedish jewels, it is referred to as the 'Coronation Tiara'. I wonder what new information they found. I am certainly excited.
I have read that Queen Silvia made some modifications to this tiara. Do you happen to know if this is true?
I wonder if some of the Scandinavian members know if the Queen did make some changes? If she did, I suspect it would only have been to make the jewel more stable. I remember that HM said it was difficult to wear because it moves.
I am really looking forward to seeing the upcoming documentary. Perhaps we will be given more details about the tiara.
The most favoured tiara was a fight as I had to pick either between the Queen Mary's Lovers Knot or the Queen Alexandra's Kokoshnik and the other contenders being the great Vald and the fourth being the King George State Diadem along with the little seen Greville geometric tiara. In the end I think it is the wall of diamonds that won out that being the QA Kokosnik tiara as the most favourite.
Regards,
Dave.
