It would be interesting if we could find another photo of Queen Louise which might help us determine if her brooch had a large central stone surrounded by a diamond border, or if she was wearing a crescent brooch. Which ever scenario, the way the brooch sits is odd.

Bearing in mind that she was hearing-impaired, the crescent looks to me almost like decoration on the end of a little ear trumpet hanging from her neck. Is this far-fetched?

The pic aeems to have been taken at the same sitting. Im still thinking its a large stone as the contrast in colours is very obvious. Plus the brooch seems to be hanging forward consistent with a large brooch pinned without appropriate backing material on a dress.
