Queen Margrethe II - 80th Birthday Posted by OmerH on April 16, 2020, 5:36 pm HM The Queen of Denmark turns 80 today. Due to the current situation all celebrations had to be cancelled. The Danes usually give us plenty of glitter at their big birthday celebrations. I invite you all to post your favourite glittering photos of the birthday girl to celebrate this occasion.

It is a such a characteristic photo of the Queen! I find her tiara one of the most interesting jewels; it can be worn in so many combinations and HM (and her hairdresser) certainly do it justice. A small tribute to the Queen and her people. (I personally like her peals also)

Question: Can you or anybody else tell me something about the two identical brooches HM wears on picture five with the blue gown? They a little bit as if they had been not created as brooches. The three necklaces on picture eight. In my mind I remenber something about a long necklace or sautoir the danish sisters inherited and divided, one piece for each. Is this the necklace reunited? Thank you!

He hates these elegant brooches to the 1840's, and - like many other royal jewels - they came to Denmark from Sweden. The brooches belonged to Queen Josefina of Sweden-Norway, and they may have been made for her, or they may have been part of an inheritance from her sister, Empress Amelie of Brazil. Queen Josefina left the brooches to her granddaughter, Princess Lovisa, who went on to become the Queen Consort of King Frederik VIII of Denmark. They became part of the royal Danish family foundation, which Frederik VIII established in 1910, and have been worn quite frequently by all the following Danish queens. In Bjarne Steen Jensens book, there is a picture of Lovisa, when still a Princess of Sweden, in court dress for the state opening of parliament. Here, she is seen wearing the brooches, as it was originally intended - on the shoulders (to fasten her train). Maridje
