Every time I have looked I have ended up rather frustrated. Despite the rather grand social position of the Duchesses there are very few photos of any of them (or other Percy females) in the press. When Lady Helen Gordon Lennox married the heir to the Duke of Northumberland in 1911 the press noted that the Duke and Duchess gave her a tiara, but I have never seen a detailed description, sketch or photo, so it is impossible to judge if it might have been one of the tiaras.

Re: Northumberland Tiaras Posted by The Royal Watcher on April 24, 2020, 6:17 pm, in reply to "Northumberland Tiara" A few years ago, I included both Tiaras in my article on the Northumberland Tiaras, HERE, and came across some information as well as these visuals of the 9th Duchess wearing the Foliate Tiara at Queen Charlotte’s Ball and the Queen’s Coronation! "A wedding gift from the 6th Duke to his bride in 1845, the glittering Foliate Tiara can be broken down into 14 brooches and be worn as a necklace" I've also seen a few pictures of Helen, Duchess of Northumberland wearing this 'mystery' Tiara (which I didn't feature in my article), which might be the wedding gift from the Duke and Duchess! It certainly doesn't look like the other three tiaras in their collection!

Oh for a closer, sharper photo! The problem with identifying the Northumberland jewels is that the Duchesses and the wives of the heirs seem to have avoided publicity, and so photos of them in grand jewels are scarce!

We know of the royal Dukes, the Gloucester's has the largest and I gather the most grandest and valuable jewels, unless they are superseded by the Dukes Cornwall and Cambridge. Of the Noble Aristocracy, I think maybe it may have to go to either the Dukes Buccleuch, Westminster or Devonshire, although it has been reported that the Marquess/ Earl Cholmondeley may also be right up there in the jewel stakes. It is frustrating that, in contrast to other members of the aristocracy, the family did not allow reporters to view (and sketch) the wedding gifts. But, I keep reminding myself, people are entitled to their privacy. On a separate issue -- the photo also shows a great view of Queen Alexandra's emerald wedding gift bracelet.
