Queen Mary. Is this a previously undiscussed bandeau?
Posted by Beth on May 22, 2020, 5:05 pm
This image of Queen Mary has caught my attention. I did the cutting some years ago and, at the time, assumed that the small bandeau was the base of the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland, but now I realise I was mistaken.
As I took this cutting years ago, I have not noted where I initially found it; nor can I find any clues on a Google image search.
Closer view
A photo (1920) showing Queen Mary wearing the base of the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara as a bandeau.
A modern photo showing the tiara with the base.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Hi, I believe that this the base of the "Girls of Great Britain" which QE2 affectionately calls Grannys Tiara.
If my memory is correct the tiara was gifted by Queen Marywithout the base and it was only discovered after her death.
