Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna (Princess Nicolas of Greece) - Wedding Presents
Posted by Sam (The Beau Monde) on June 11, 2020, 10:06 pm
Hi all, hope we are all keeping safe and well.
I'm finishing up my short articles on Princess Marina's jewellery collection and was wondering if anyone could help.

So we know Princess Marina inherited her Pearl Bandeau from her mother Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna (Princess Nicolas of Greece).
But do we know where Elena got it from. Everyone assumes it must have come from Grand Duchess Vladimir via her wedding presents. But the only picture I've ever seen on Elena wearing it was in 1912, over 10 years after her marriage. And stylistically, it just doesn't fit with the Imperial Russian style, I think it looks more Art Nouveau.

Do we know if a list or inventory of Elena's wedding presents exist?
Thanks

This diamond and pearl necklace was,, probably a wedding gift from Grand Duchess Vladimir to her daughter Elena when she married Prince Nicholas of Greece in 1902. It could also be worn as a bandeau.
Two of the segments have been removed to create a pair of earrings.
Princess Nicholas later gave the piece to her daughter Princess Marina when she married the Duke of Kent in 1934.
Princess Marina shared the bandeau with her daughter Princess Alexandra of Kent, to whom it was eventually given. It is said the necklace was later sold in the 1970’s.
According to Geoffrey Munn

I haven't seen a list Sam, but that is not surprising as the UK press didn't always carry reports on all the royal brides from other countries, and both the Greek and Russian royal families seem to have been reticent about providing such information.
