Queen Anne Marie's gifts from the Greek oligarchs Posted by Janet on July 31, 2020, 3:32 am, in reply to "Queen Sofia's wedding gifts - Photo- " Queen Frederika and Queen Sofia both received lavish gifts from wealthy Greek tycoons - Queen Marie of Romania's sapphire supposedly was gifted to Queen Frederika by a Greek businessman and Queen Sofia received some lovely gifts including the ruby parure from the Niarchos family. Such generosity leaves me to wonder what Queen Anne Marie must have received? Her arrival and wedding was arguably the highest point in the history of the Greek monarchy in the 20th century. A young handsome King marrying a stunning and glamorous princess (without any of the political and personal baggage of her mother-in-law!) and watching the huge crowds at their wedding, it was clear the King and Queen were well loved and I can imagine that Queen Anne Marie was perceived very well (She was one of the most beautiful and glamorous royal ladies ever (and remains so!) and many of the wealthy Greeks would want to celebrate and honour her by giving lovely gifts. Has there ever been any news on what she may have recieved?
