Two Hessian pearl tiaras Posted by Janet on October 24, 2020, 4:53 am Princess Margaret, daughter of Emperor Frederick III and Victoria, Princess Royal of Great Britain had a very nice pearl tiara. Her daughter in law Mafalda of Savoy also had a pearl tiara. Are both still in existence or lost - either through sale or theft?

Both of Mafalda's sisters Posted by Janet on October 25, 2020, 12:34 am, in reply to "Re: Two Hessian pearl tiaras" received extraordinary tiaras (which we know still exist as they have been exhibited in recent years) so I suspect the grand pearl tiara was a wedding gift from her parents, as Mafalda made the best marriage of her sisters. The Hesse family is still very wealthy I believe and a tiara of that magnitude would not be auctioned unnoticed so unless it has been sold privately or broken up or was one of the items stolen by the Americans soldiers at the end of the War, it seems reasonable to assume it may still exist in the Hesse vault. "This breathtaking tiara was handmade by the Valobra Jewelry Atelier in Torino, Italy for the wedding of Princess Yolanda of the House of Savoy to Count Girgio Calvi of Bergolo on April 9, 1923. A fleur-de-lis tiara The pearl tiara buried in hair The emerald parure worn by Princess Sophie, wife of Princess Margaret's son. No tiara nor elements from the emerald or amethyst parures had been among the stolen pieces recovered. So, I doubt the pearl tiara of Princess Mafalda is still in a vault...
