Princess Alexandra. Origin of the elements in her tiara Posted by Beth on December 13, 2020, 9:11 am By chance, I discovered the photo below showing Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent wearing 2 of the smaller floral elements (now in Princess Alexandra's tiara) as hat brooches. The occasion was the arrival of the Shah of Iran on a State visit in May 1959. I believe that these elements are the two small floral elements seen below the larger central element. The million dollar questions are -- Do the elements come from Queen Mary? Princess Victoria? Louise, Duchess of Argyll? Origin of the elements in her tiara" What a great memory and eye you have RDavid!! If we allow for a little artistic licence then I think you have found the original owner of the elements. My only hesitation is that the artist, Heinrich von Angeli, in this 1875 portrait appears to have depicted the elements as having gold, not diamond, petals. I made an enlargement from a version of the painting on Wiki media so that others can see what I am referring to. 1875 painting by von Angeli Enlarged detail showing the hair jewels. Despite my minor reservation, I think that RDavid has found the origin of the elements. Congratulations RDavid!
