Quite an interesting and very modern looking necklace belonging to the mistress of Lord Nelson.
"The necklace composed of links set each set with three half pearls and a cushion-shaped topaz, amethyst, emerald, peridot or sapphire in closed back settings, spaced by figure-of-eight-shaped links set with half pearls and pansy motifs set with pear-shaped amethysts and topazes, accented by marquise-shaped emeralds and cushion-shaped diamonds, length approximately 550mm; together with a similar, later pair of pansy earrings, post fittings, fitted shagreen case.
Condition Report Provenance Worn by Emma, Lady Hamilton, the necklace was subsequently later sold to the Countess of Aldborough, who gave it to Lady Campbell Barcaldine who bequeathed it to Miss Erica Rose Campbell of Barcaldine."
This necklace is very beautiful, thanks for the info Janet.
Regards,
Dave.

A very interesting jewel. Many thanks for bringing it to our attention Janet. It seems that the fashion for mixing different coloured gemstones has come full circle.
Re: Necklace of Emma, Lady Hamilton to be auctioned
What little I could discover about the Campbell connection with this necklace raises some more questions.
I cannot find any information on the connection between the Countess of Aldborough and Lady Campbell of Barcaldine.
What Sotheby's site does not mention is that the necklace was auctioned by Christie's 1945. At the time the person sending it to auction was Miss Erica Rose Campbell of Barcaldine. The first auction did not proceed as the jewel was said to be an heirloom and was withdrawn from sale.
Once the legalities were sorted out, the jewel was auctioned, fetching 800 pounds. Various reports also stated that Emma Hamilton had worn it on her wedding day
It will be very interesting to see what price it eventually fetches in this current auction.
