QEII - Anklet ?
Posted by Bryce on December 30, 2020, 8:11 am
While watching the Queen's Christmas Message, my mother told me that HM wore an anklet during one of her early Christmas broadcasts.
This was news to me...so I started looking.
I found it - 1957
The problem is is that some images show it and some do not.

What a mystery you set us Bryce. I laughed when I saw your heading. QEII wearing an anklet!! The heading brightened an otherwise dreary day!
After I looked at the images I immediately wondered if what looks like an anklet was in reality a fold in HM's stocking: such things were the bane of many a lady's life.
Then I looked more closely at the Tatler image, and noticed that the photo has been damaged by a tear or creasing.
The Town and Country magazine has used a photo from Getty which does not have any damage.
Nevertheless, I checked in the newspapers of the time. None shows the dark band near HM's ankle.

Yes Beth, a bit of a mystery.
I too thought that the "anklet" may have been a flaw in the photo but then the ones without it look a bit strange too - like they had been altered.
I cannot decide.
I'd like to think she is wearing an anklet - after all - why not.
Maybe Philip gave it to her for Christmas ??!!

I think it’s a tear in the photo, going through the ankle and the carpet’s pattern to its left. The second photo might look a bit strange because it’s possibly retouched in this area.
