Sadly as usual with auction houses nowadays, they prioritise style over substance in the way they have photographed the necklace - displaying it on an angle with the back end of the necklace invisible - hopefully better quality pictures will appear in the catalogue.

An enormous royal emerald Posted by Janet on March 21, 2021, 10:50 pm, in reply to "Sothebys to auction very important & valuable noble sapphires" Apparently in the 1990s this was in the possession of a King but is now marketed for sale as part of an Important noble collection. I hope we had a better source for the collection of Asian monarchies. In my opinion the necklace in the postage stamp and in the post aren't a match. There is a photo of the Empress on which the stamp seems to be based upon. We can see that the necklace she is wearing is a different design. I wonder if she is wearing it in the first photo for the following. The shape of the central element seems to conform, but I'm not sure as for the rest. The necklace was previously auctioned by Christies in 2010. Unfortunately, the poor quality of the photo makes it difficult to discern the details of the necklace. I have found another photo showing what I think is the same necklace as in Al13's first photo (in the duo). The darker fabric in the dress makes it a trifle easier to see parts of the pattern of the necklace, although the bottom section is more obscured. I think it is the same as the one worn by the Empress in Al13's photo.

I love the use of the different diamond cuts in the design. I don't think I've ever seen any jewelry that belonged to Nam Phương before. It's so cool!
