Fate of Queen Ena's turquoises? Posted by Beth on March 25, 2021, 4:55 pm The posts below about Queen Sophia's turquoises made me wonder what happened to Queen Ena's turquoises. Did Queen Ena pass on her turquoises? Or were they sold? All that I know is that the necklace was a wedding gift from Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

I always thought that Princess Beatrice's gift was conch pearls rather than coral and ended up being made into a stunning bracelet which sold a few years ago for huge sums? https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2012/magnificent-jewels-ge1205/lot.594.html The total value of Queen Ena's collection by modern standards if it still existed as a single collection would have been extraordinary.

I have no idea why that particular newspaper decided to say that the conch pearls were corals. Most papers referred to them as pink pearls. That was how the media referred to the necklace and brooch etc when Queen Victoria gave them to Princess Beatrice for her wedding.

That tiara, according to some studies, was commissioned by King Alfonso XIII to Ansorena and given to Queen Ena as a gift. I suspect that this parure (or parts of it) served as a wedding gift to one of the Queen's daughters, Infanta Maria Cristina. And later on given again as a wedding gift to one of daughters. Two diamonds bracelets were created by Bulgari with the diamonds from her crown. One was made by Cartier with the pink pearls. And a rather big turquoises and diamond bracelet was sold some 20 years. This may have been made with turquoise from the necklace. Queen Enàs provenance was mentioned in the catalogue of the auction. On the other hand the comtesse de Barcelone had a Turquoises and diamond necklace and earrings set. It has not been seen since she died.
