Northumberland Tiara / Queen Dina of Jordan Tiara Posted by The Royal Watcher on May 12, 2021, 6:41 am I've always been intrigued by this 'mystery' Diamond Tiara worn by Helen, Duchess of Northumberland, the Mistress of the Robes of the Queen Mother, which was notably worn for a Gala Performance at Covent Garden in 1950 and the Opening of the Royal Festival Hall in 1951, as well as an Gala Performance during the Belgian State Visit in 1963, which was just a few months before the Northumberland Strawberry Leaf Coronet was pulled out of her hands. The design of the Northumberland Tiara is almost identical to the Diamond Tiara worn by Princess Dina of Hijaz when she married King Hussein of Jordan in 1955.

Or maybe a loan of some kind? The Hashemites have long established ties to the UK and Princess Dina was educated in the UK at some very prestigious establishments, so its entirely possible she or her husband would have known the Percy's. Have you thought about messaging Princess Dina's daughter Princess Alia on Instagram and seeing if she answers? She may do - her Instagram is one of the absolute best out there, she posts almost daily historic pictures of her paternal and maternal family. If they are the same piece, I was thinking that either the Tiara was a one-time loan from the Percy Family to Princess Dina (she seems to have only worn it at her wedding), or both the Duchess and Princess Dina borrowed the tiara from a jeweller or another society figure. Also thank you for sharing Princess Alia's Instagram, the pictures are amazing and I'll try to get in contact with her.

The tiara worn by the Duchess of Northumberland certainly looks identical to the one worn by Queen Dina. In June 1955 Queen Dina and King Hussein visited the UK for an official visit for which a dinner was held at Downing Street. I couldn't find a photo showing the Queen from the front, but it seems to my eye that she was wearing a different tiara for that event. Any suggestions as to which one it might be?
