They clearly can never be sold officially so will end up on the black market. A very sad story. After this, the Portland theft and what happened in Dresden, I increasingly fear that many items will be removed from public showing altogether.

It's why I've always had the suspicion that the Crown Jewels on display in the Tower of London are replicas.

Again, another lost important historical item! And we can be grateful, if it ended with some socalled "collector", so that it maybe will survive to reappear once again... Just by the way, the fifth suspect in connection with the Dresden theft was caught a few days ago. But no trace of the Saxon jewels. Unfortunately, many pieces of interest to the "market" are not sufficiently secured! The German Museum Association recently published a guide for museum security. But security costs money. And there is a lack of it, especially when those in charge and responsible institutions play down the problem. Or believe that the presentation design would suffer from the security precautions. I've heard something like that before. I can't help feeling angry and I am very sorry for the staff at Arundel Castle. No wonder the Queen, and that is QE11 hardly does any continuous show casing of her own jewels, and when she does it's always some kind of occasion she is acknowledging or when she wears them on matters of state.
