Duchess of Cambridge Wearing the Dubai Sapphire Earrings

Getty has many pictures of Catherine wearing the Dubai Sapphire Loop earrings for the first time. Hopefully she has borrowed and will soon wear the whole set as it would go well with her engagement ring.

Beth, the set does have a necklace and bracelet to go with the earrings. It is a set I've wanted the Duchess of Cambridge to wear for a while, so hopefully at an upcoming evening event she will wear the full set.

Welcome Crowne, and thanks for bringing this debut to our attention for I did not know the DoCam had indeed worn the earrings from the Grand Dubai sapphire set which had been gifted to HM.
Somehow they look much smaller on the DoCam though. My time here has taught me never to put things pass the BRF in that they could well be a tiara related to the set but it's just the at times jewel shy Queen has not dawned it to our knowledge.
I recall it was said the Queen had removed I think 3/4 stones from the necklace and possibly a ring and had them worked into a new bracelet. So the question is are they loose stones from the set and was their an original bracelet given along with the set meaning that if HM created another bracelet from the too long necklace and a ring then one can deduce their is still the original bracelet about.
But given that HM has reportedly 2 sapphire tiaras of her own and possibly another and it is unclear whether or not her mom the late QEQM had any from the Greville bequest I'm unsure they may want to have another sapphire tiara in the collection.
What would be nice is to have an outing of the pearl and sapphire/ diamond necklace which basically formed the memory of the late Diana PoW along with a magnificent tiara to go with it unless it would be felt that a tiara would have to really stand out to blend in with such and overpowering statement peice.
A good match for tiara for either that famed sapphire necklace or the Dubai set would be the Grand sapphire tiara in the Wruttingburg, 'hope I spealt their sir name correctly; from the family collection, the stones are huge and beautiful and would match up well with the stones of the two sets I just mentioned.
It is possible that William could do some gift of an outstanding Headpiece for his dutiful wife of sapphires as he basically gived her his late mom's sapphire engagement ring.
But to me the PoW is more into history, jewels and grandure than his sons and may well be the one to really bring out or create statement pieces going forward.

The suite was given by Sheikh Rashid of Dubai to queen Elizabeth when she visited Dubai in 1979. It was made by Asprey.
The queen has only wore this necklace a couple of times. The set has been transformed. The necklace has been shortened and the smallest loops-clusters from it have been removed to make a new pair of earrings.
The three other clusters (earrings and ring ) have been used as the centerpiece of a new bracelet.
Menkes's book page 148, shows a picture of gifts received in 1979, from Sheikh Rashid. They are the sapphire suite,a gold camel and palm trees hung with rubies as dates, also a silver salver. The camel was on the Royal Yacht Britannia.
Field says on page 147:
"The Queen has many pieces of sapphire jewellery, either inherited or given as gifts by her family. In addition, she was presented with a magnificent suite of a necklace, earrings and ring by Sheikh Rashid when she visited Dubai in 1979.
Made by Asprey, the perfectly matched sapphires are so large and the looped design of the diamond necklace with it sapphire cluster pendants is so ornate that the Queen is reported to have exclaimed in amazement when she saw it".
She later used the stones from the earrings and ring to make a bracelet; and shorterned the necklace by two clusters which were turned into earrings.

I love the deep yet clear blue shade of these sapphires and I'm glad Kate wore them, they look great on her and seem to combine very well with a normal daytime outfit!
