Hi all
I was at the V&A Museum yesterday in London and I thought it would be nice to take some (a lot) of photographs for everyone on here, especially those who can't make it to museums just yet.
So this is the room itself. It starts in Ancient Greece and finishes right up to the modern day:
They have a many famous jewels, donated or bought by the museum.
This is the Peridot Parure George IV gave to a servant that looked after Princess Charlotte:
This is two pieces from the Napoleonic era, the emeralds were owned by Stephanie de Beauharnais, who's Sapphire Parure recently made headlines.
There is also a substantial collection of Faberge objects donated by Nicholas Snowden (who I believe owned Wartski at some point?) My favourite piece here is the Guilloche enamelled box with the Diamond Royal Monogram.
There is the Manchester Tiara that was made by Cartier for the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902. Couldn't help but feel a bit sad when you consider what happened to the Portland Tiara which was made for the same event:
My personal favourites are the Londonderry Jewels. By far the most impressive pieces in the whole gallery, the stones are HUGE! (Although, those Amethysts could do with a polish lol)
But the most significant piece for me is this collection of diamond bows and diamond clips. I must have walked past these hundreds of times but it wasn't until I wrote my article on the Yugoslavian Emeralds that I realised that these pins were once pinned to the original Kokoshnik tiara that Grand Duchess Ella attached her emeralds to:
