George, Duke of Kent's gift to bridesmaids in 1934
Posted by Beth on June 18, 2021, 6:29 pm
I recently read a report of the gift of aquamarine and diamond clips the Duke of Kent gave to the 8 bridesmaids when he married Princess Marina in 1934.
The brooches were described as very modern clips mounted in platinum, triangular in shape with the initials G and M in aquamarines and diamonds. The brooches were delivered on the eve of the wedding and were worn the next day by the adult bridesmaids.
As far as I can see neither QEII or Lady Mary Cambridge were wearing one.
Has anyone ever seen other photos of the adult bridesmaids wearing these brooches? I don't recollect ever seeing QEII wearing anything which matches the description.
Unfortunately I cannot find a high definition photo of the bridesmaids.

Thanks Bryce. I agree that the bridesmaids wore the clips on their right shoulders. What I was hoping for is that someone might have seen the adults wearing their presents on other occasions, and hopefully that might have given us a good view of the jewels.
Now that you have drawn attention to what I thought were shadows in the dresses of the then Princess Elizabeth and Lady Mary Cambridge, it does look as if they too wore their gifts, but I suspect their brooches were probably scaled down versions. The image below is slightly clearer.
