Diamond Cut of Royal Tiaras and Necklaces Posted by maria olivia on August 10, 2021, 9:59 pm A lot of royal tiaras and necklaces are first Rose cut. Which one ? During the 19th Century Old Mine Cut diamonds and later old european cut diamands (round in Shape). What is their value yet ? Before and after WW1 we have the modern brillant cut on 57 faces. (which makes the diamond smaller) They are a lot of of tiaras from the past , such as those from the British Nobilities . Were they so expensive they are now ? When I see on You Tube all these tiaras gliterring I don't know which cut and quality have these diamonds . It is a question that is important to me. Thank you for corecting and helping . Some diamonds in the Old European cut style can be as expensive as a modern brilliant cut diamond. It depends on the colour and clarity of the stone. Some people prefer Old European and Old Mine cut diamonds for the softer light reflected. I think we have information about some of the tiaras either in royal collections or which have come to auction in recent times. I'll have to see what information I have. I suspect that in modern times (even when purchasing power of money is adjusted) that high value jewellery may be slightly more expensive today. One reason for that is that in modern times the crafts people who make these jewels are usually now paid a "living" wage. In previous times it was commonplace for many of these crafts people to be paid a pittance. The retail jewellers made a considerable profit, but usually those who did the actual work were not protected by unions or associations and were often under compensated for their labour. Unfortunately, that can still be the case today. I think that many would be surprised to know just how much of the intricate work in jewellery is done in developing countries.

Teck tiara According to Hugh Roberts in The Queen's Diamonds the diamonds in this tiara are rose cut. 2. Strathmore tiara Hugh Roberts says it is set mainly with rose diamonds. 3. Queen Adelaide's fringe Hugh Roberts notes that the central bars of this jewel are set with cushion cut and pear cut shaped diamonds. I suspect that where there are round diamonds that they will be Old Mine cut. What do others think? I think most commentators have said that QEQM was wearing it as a necklace on this occasion -- I don't have a clue!

I think this photo shows jewels with a variety of diamond cuts Posted by Beth on August 12, 2021, 9:29 am, in reply to "Some tiaras where the cut of diamonds is known" Given that we know some approximate dates for when the jewels worn by Queen Elizabeth II (seen in photo below) were constructed, I think the photo shows 3 different styles of diamond cuts. Old Mine cut (and possibly rose) in the Diamond Cockade, Old European cut in the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, and modern brilliant cut in the Queen's necklace and earrings.

Dutch 'Rose' Cut Bandeau Posted by ErikSch on August 15, 2021, 7:46 pm, in reply to "Diamond Cut of Royal Tiaras and Necklaces" Contrary to it's name on the internet, the Dutch 'rose cut' bandeau is not rose cut at all, but very large, round brilliants. I very much doubt if they coined the name rose diamond bandeau. That term, like the use of filigree and crochet to describe two of Queen Mary's tiaras, has always made me laugh.
