Princess Margaret. Probable provenance of a watch
Posted by Beth on September 3, 2021, 5:58 pm
When Princess Margaret launched the Amazon, a cargo and passenger ship for the Royal Mail line, in July 1959 Sir Frederick Rebbeck, the Chairman and Managing Director of Harland & Wolff, the shipbuilders, presented her with a memento of the event, which was described as a "cocktail watch set in a diamond bracelet".
I haven't found a photo of the gift (when it was presented) but I am reasonably sure it was the watch below which was auctioned by Christie's.
I haven't been able to find HRH wearing this watch prior to the launch, but it can be seen in photos from very early 1960, and was then to be seen regularly on evening or formal occasions.

Re: Princess Margaret. Probable provenance of a watch
A very impressive jewel, I wonder which jewel house made and designed it.
Regards,
Dave.
