Londonderry. Amethysts
Posted by Beth on September 24, 2021, 6:39 pm
I have been meaning to post some of these images of Edith, Marchioness of Londonderry wearing the grand amethysts for a while -- but I have been getting side tracked!
I think that the following images show the Marchioness wearing the amethysts.
What do others think?
1. At the wedding of Princess Mary, daughter of George V.
The only description I have on the Marchioness's jewels do not mention the amethysts, but!!
Despite what I think are some odd light reflections I think that the Marchioness is seen wearing the amethysts as a corsage jewel in the photo below.
What do others think?
On another occasion she was reported to have worn the amethysts as a tiara at a grand dinner for George V and Queen Mary at Londonderry House.

as described by tiara expert Geoffery C. Munn, “are the considered the finest in the world because of the red and blue highlights seen in the deep purple body of the stones.”
