Grand Duke Georgi and Princess Victoria Wedding and Gala
Posted by Maria Olivia on October 2, 2021, 9:10 pm
The Bride wore the chosen Chaumet tiara. Is it a loan ?? For the Gala Grand Duchess Maria wore a never seen tiara , a loan , paste ? Where is her Wedding tiara? Only the Duchess of Braganzia wore her tiara , the other guests wore small loan tiara as they did not have one. The Duchess of Anjou could have worn a tiara from her Mother in law Carmen, Duchess of Franco. Grand Duke Geogi wore a Sach and two Collars.
Just posting about the colour worn by some of the bridesmaids. At the Russian court the grand duchesses were given a colour to be worn at court by the ladies who accompanied their mistresses. This was to be their version of the red and green worn by the maids and ladies to the empresses. The Grand Duchess Vladimir was given a colour described as burnt orange. I’m not sure who was given emerald green but it might be referring to the empress.

The Eurohistory blog addresses Grand Duchess Maria's wedding tiara, it appears to have been worn at the wedding ball by her elder half sister, so is still in the family.
But they are wrong that it was last worn by Grand Cuhcess maria at her wedding- She wore it several times afetrwards and i think the last time she was pictured weaering it was the Wedding Gala of Duke friedrich of Württemberg and Princess Marie zu Wied in 1993.

Stefan you are right , she wore her tiara later until 1993 and then other tiaras. Do you think Helčne Kirby is wearing this tiara ??

Do you know if the piece has any connection to the Romanovs or is it a post revolution purchase?

Victoria Beattarni made some disgusting racial remarks against a highly regarded, neutral Instagram page before the wedding.
Her Tiara was a loan from a jeweller who in the past few years has tried to capitalise on it’s former glory.
And the fact that the only ‘nobility’ in attendance were those of long ago disposed houses should speak volumes of the regards that the Vladimir/Hohenzollern house are held in.
Absolutely farce in my opinion
Re: Grand Duke Georgi and Princess Victoria Wedding and Gala
I clicked on the link you posted and looked at the pictures but couldn’t see the alleged racial remarks. Apologies if I am missing it. What do you say Rebecca said? It is of course a very serious allegation so I do think you need to be specific.
I’m not familiar with this Instagram profile but I did click on another post on that profile and saw that the account holder posted a picture showing Queen Elizabeth II and described Baroness Marie-Hélčne de Rothschild as “Queen of the Jews”. Maybe it was intended to be humorous but it certainly made me feel uncomfortable.

As for the wedding, I think you're assessment was way too harsh and the failure to identify anything nice or positive is striking:
The wedding was clearly very commercialised. I know his aunt is supposed to be very wealthy but presumably she didn't pay for this lavish event so it must have been funded somehow.
Grand Duke George tries far too hard for my personal tastes and I’m not sure what his objective is – he can’t seriously believe he is going to be Tsar – maybe there is an opportunity to achieve standing and money in Russia by emphasising his descent from the Romanov dynasty. If you contrast it with the Two Sicillies wedding last week it just had a completely different atmosphere but it is their choice and it certainly didn’t strike me as a “farce”.
It appears from a quick scan of that Instagram account that the relationship between this blogger and Grand Duke George is mutually hostile and the Instagram account holder appears to quite like being provocative (generally, not just in relation to the Romanovs) and Grand Duke George can't resist attacking back. That doesn’t justify any racial comment (if one was made) but maybe if the two don’t like each other, it would be better to block/ignore rather than continue to provoke one another.
It strikes me as odd that the Instragam account attacks Grand Duke George's ancestry and then covers his wedding in minute detail. I say this only because only in the last 48 hours we have heard the sad news about how Princess Mako of Japan has been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of constant press sniping over her wedding. I don't think its at all fair to place all the criticism on Grand Duke George and Rebecca.
The wedding and other venues were stunning. I dream of visiting Russia one day.
I didn’t like the bride’s choice of tiara (of all the Chaumet tiaras available to choose from why that modern horror!?!) but her dress was lovely.
Grand Duchess Maria is always a joy to see! She always reminds me of portraits of Catherine the Great and pictures of her other female ancestors Maria Alexandrovna of Edinburgh and Maria Pavlovna, she is very majestic in her style of dress and manner, kind of like Queen Margrethe II. I loved the fact that her hat during the wedding service was shaped like a Russian kokoshink.
I’m also not sure I can agree with your assessment of the lack of high-profile attendees, frankly I am somewhat stunned by the turn out in these Covid times, especially King Simeon and Queen Margarita due to their ages. I’m not sure why anyone would expect European royals from reigning dynasties to attend a private wedding in Russia given the political issues between most Western European countries and the Russian state, not to mention the cost of security for reigning royalty visiting a place like Russia and the continued risk of Covid.
Just my thoughts.
Re: Grand Duke Georgi and Princess Victoria Wedding and Gala
I'm surprised that the Kents, direct descendants of the Romanov clan were not in attendance either. In fact I sometimes wonder how comes either the Duke or his brother Prince Michael are not considered possible heads of the former defunct Imperial Family seeing that their maternal grandmother was the daughter of a Romanov grand Duchess, was she the one who owned the Great Vladimir tiara?
I liked the wedding though, a bit somber in terms of attire choices but the tiara was fitting for both bride and mother of the groom.
I think Prince Charles is also a direct descendant via his dad the late DoE PP, he could also be considered a possible nominal head of the now defunct Romanov Imperial Family, but maybe it has something to do with descendants via a male line taking precedence over those via a female line.
Regards,
Dave.

Re: Grand Duke Georgi and Princess Victoria Wedding and Gala
The Duke of Kent is 85, his sister is 84. Travelling to Russia at their age (Russia is still Amber listed by the UK government) would be surprising (some may say reckless) to say the least. I am also not sure whether the Queen and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office would also need to give their consent to members of the Royal Family who represent the Queen visiting Russia at this time. It seems entirely reasonable to me that such permission may be refused.
Prince Michael is slightly younger and effectively a private citizen but he would be beyond stupid to travel to Russia at the current time given the recent sleaze accusations directed at him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-57044369
I do not understand your point about the Prince of Wales. He is not on any logical level a possible nominal head of the Romanov family, he shares descent in the female line from the Romanov dynasty family (Tsar Nicholas I via his granddaughter Queen Olga of Greece) just like King Constantine II and King Felipe VI do (albeit their line of descent is senior to that of the Prince of Wales) but there are plenty of living descendants in both the male and female lines of Tsar Alexander III and Tsar Alexander II, who are senior to them.
Re: Grand Duke Georgi and Princess Victoria Wedding and Gala
Thanks Janet, I always get fumble by the many lines of descent and terms of seniority when it comes to the Romanovs. As for me thinking of Prince Charles, that came because I thought his likely ascent to argubly the most important throne on earth would have made him supercede others based on that narrative.
I recall that his late grandmother the QEQM was recorded as being the head of her paternal family just because of her status of being a Queen Mother.
She held the highest rank in her paternal family above her cousin the Earl Bowes-Lyon, so that was my train of thought.
Regards,
Dave.

Re: Grand Duke Georgi and Princess Victoria Wedding and Gala
The Imperial Romanov Wedding was approved by President Poutine . Why should it be " a farce"
No main Royals no Presidents and no Important Security service.
Just a happy Wedding and the Glory back for the Romanov in their Country.
