Hi Beth, I am actually not that surprised. Whilst 6 million pounds is a huge sum given that she is such an "iconic" figure and I am not surprised. I suspect that a lot of the hot prices in the market are driven by investors as well as very wealthy private individuals wanting to get a nice dinner party bauble. When one thinks of some of the prices from other royal jewels whilst very expensive not enough to make me fall of my seat. I hope a benefactor gives it to the Louvre. I agree Mike. It would be wonderful if the Louvre acquired the bracelets or if a philanthropic individual gave them to the museum. I hadn't thought about the price in the wider scheme of things. Thinking of these bracelets as a "nice dinner party bauble" brought a smile to my lips. I am sure that I could walk around the city wearing them without being mugged, as no one would believe they were real!! That is one of the great benefits of living in a city where no one expects to see "major jewels". A set of large, high quality South Sea pearls would be more likely to attract attention.
