Duchess of Gloucester. Still surprising me Posted by Beth on November 15, 2021, 6:11 pm Today I was looking at photos of the Duchess of Gloucester at the reception at Windsor Castle on 10 November. Much to my surprise I noticed a jewel which is new to me -- a diamond and emerald pendant, almost totally obscured by the neckline of the Duchess' dress. I have never seen this before. Could it be that the Duchess has suspended the smaller emerald pendant from one of the configurations of the pearl and emerald necklaces from a diamond pendant -- or is this a totally new jewel? Small diamond pendant visible small diamond pendant with emerald drop visible Could the pendant be the small central emerald drop in this necklace?

It is the entire pendant" is the Duchess is clearly a lady who enjoys her collection and is constantly thinking of ways to adapt her collection, which is just great for us jewellery lovers. Amongst the British royal ladies, the Duchess has arguably the best collection of jewels at her disposal save for the Queen herself (if one treats the Duchess of Cornwall's jewels as largely part of the Queen's wider collection) and she makes great use of them.

However, the fact that she has such a wonderful and large collection makes me a bit worried about the future though. What will happen to it when the inheritance taxes have to be paid... I seem to recall that the Gloucesters' younger daughter is married to a very wealthy man so maybe her portion will escape the auction block assuming of course any of the jewels are passed directly to the Gloucesters' children. It may be that the Duke has settled his jewels in a family trust, to avoid inheritance tax. After his own experience, I am sure he will have gotten legal advice. In any event, I am sure we will not see any auctions anytime soon if the Duke has his mother's longevity.
