Queen Mary's black pearls Posted by Beth on February 6, 2022, 4:04 pm Recently I posted photos on Instagram showing Queen Mary wearing her black and white pearl bracelet, now worn by QEII, and also a photo of Queen Mary wearing a black pearl necklace. Bracelet Necklace We also know that Queen Mary had black pearl earrings. Has anyone ever seen any other photos of Queen Mary with black pearls? In many ways I am surprised that we haven't seen at least the necklace being worn by another royal lady.

Don’t know date of picture but she could be in mourning. Queen Mary was not a fan of jet and gave pieces to the Museum of London which might explain lack of wear by other royal women. It is coinciding with another argument on another platform. I know that my use of this photo is causing all sorts of controversy. 1. No one gave me or sent me this image. I did a cut from another image which I found on the Royal Collection site. It can be found at RCIN 2300907 The date is 1898. Anyone who was prepared to put in the time researching could find it. I hope that after all these years those who read this board will realise that I do my own research and that I do not plaigarise the work of others -- particularly when it is unpublished on the net. To the doubting Thomases, I would ask how could I, if that person had not published?? And no one had sent it to me!

On the 1898 photo of Queen Mary, she wore at her collar the diamond York brooch later given as a wedding gift to Elizabeth Bowes Lyon (future Duchess of York) in 1923. I don't know who owns it today (The Queen ?, The Duchess of Cornwall ?). It was not Princess Margaret's rose of York brooch sold at the 2006 auction. I'll have to verify if it was indeed that documentary or another one. I also thought I saw the pearl necklace that the late princess Diana wore to the Opening Parliament that some think that was a borrowed piece. It looked like it was worn as a bracelet. Regards, Dave.
