Correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought that a "Lessor George" was the depiction of St. George slaying the dragon that hangs from the Garter sash at the hip. The "Greater George" being the St George medallion that hangs from the Garter chain - often enameled and bejeweled (as is this one!). This would be a mighty impressive Lessor George and if so, I would like to see the accompanying Greater George. Personally - I think the RC has it wrong (wouldn't be the first time).

Re: King George II "Lessor George" or "Greater George" Posted by 992234177 on May 8, 2023, 9:12 am, in reply to "Re: King George II "Lessor George" or "Greater George"" I think, and I may be wrong that a Greater George is worn hanging from the collar and is usually a sculptural 3d object or a pierced flat medal/disc. A Lesser George is worn from the sash on the hip and is usually a solid flat disc or cameo. It looks like he is wearing a large lesser instead of a greater.
