Queen Mary's Crown & changes made in 1937
Posted by Beth on May 9, 2023, 9:47 pm
We all know that, because the Koh-i-noor diamond was set in the crown of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen May used the Cullinan V diamond in the front cross of her crown.
At the 1937 coronation Queen Mary wore Cullinan III & IV as a brooch in the centre of her bodice.
For her coronation in 1911 Queen Mary had Cullinan IV set in the front of the band of the crown.
So, what did she use in the band in place of Cullinan IV in 1937?
A new poster, Angelo, has some suggestions for us to consider.
[After I post the images I will let Angelo explain things]
First, I will post a detailed sketch which Angelo has done.
Angelo thinks that Queen Mary may have used the Cullinan VIII brooch -- but without the Cullinan VI drop
Then will be some images of Queen Mary taken in 1937.
I am looking forward to reading what everyone thinks.
If anyone has sharper images, could you please post as the images I have are blurry.
Since I saw Queen Mary use Cullinan IV with Cullinan III as the brooch on the front of the bodice I started to guessing what Queen Mary used on the front of the band.
The Koh-I-Noor diamond place was change to the Cullinan V brooch and the Cullinan IV place became vacant, the size of the Cullinan IV is the same as the size of the Cullinan VIII brooch.
