If Mateo puts a sign in the restrooms stating “employees must wash their hands after using the bathroom,” would you consider Crocodile Bar and Cabanas a high-end restaurant?
MEXICAN MARIACHI NIGHT!
Friday, Feb. 9, marks the party highlight of the high season. If you only can make it to Crocodile Bar for one night during Mateo’s birthday week, this would be the best night.
The Music
Rick and Paul start off the evening at 5 p.m. with their smooth sound and will play through the sunset.
At 7 p.m, Mariachi Arriba Jalisco will crank up the party and play until 9 p.m. If you’ve never had a chance to enjoy mariachi, please take advantage of this opportunity. If you have already heard this amazing music, you know you will have a great time.
The Menu
Appetizer: Guacamole for everyone
Main dish: Pick one of the following when you purchase your ticket
*Flautas
(Fried twisted corn tortilla stuffed with chicken, with cream, lettuce, cheese and tomato sauce)
*Pambazo
(Boillon stuffed with potato and sausage, bathed in guajillo sauce, accompanied by lettuce, cream and cheese)
*Tlacoyos
(Thick rhomboid-shaped corn dough tortilla, filled with a bean dough, covered with tomato sauce, with cheese, cream, onion and cilantro)
Dessert: Tequila gelatin
Drinks sold separately
Tickets required
Crocodile Bar offers this special event for only 300 pesos for those visiting for the high season. For folks who live in La Manzanilla all year, tickets are just 200 pesos. Pro tip: If you are reading this and you attended Rick and Paul’s Monday evening shows in August, 2023, you live here all year. Tickets go on sale starting 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, and end 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. Please get your tickets during bar hours from either Mateo, Belen or Cristal and please don’t ask Mateo’s cafe friends for tickets.
OH, NO, NOT ANOTHER SAMMY HAGAR REFERENCE
The mariachi night is the highlight, but not the only special moment of Mateo’s birthday week.
Tuesday, Feb. 6: Free shot of tequila or a mineral water for anyone wearing a collector’s item Crocodile Bar and Cabnas’ t-shirt or tank top. Pro tip: Don’t make Mateo feel sad by letting him know you wish to give him money to advertise his business for free. Sigh.
Wednesday, Feb. 7: Our only seafood buffet of the season. Will include a variety of shrimp and dorado and cooked on the grill. Reservations required for the buffet and priority seating to those who make reservations.
Thursday, Feb. 8: Mateo will celebrate his birthday by finally offering poutine to his friend Michel. Everyone welcome to order this tasty Quebec dish that night.
Friday, Feb. 9: Mariachi night! Only with a ticket.
Saturday, Feb. 10: Free birthday cake for all customers. Customers = those who have never bowed down to the Oxxo sign.
ENJOY YOUR FISH TACOS AND CHILE RELLENO FOR LUNCH
Several folks coming by for a beer have asked Mateo if food is available in the afternoon. Yes, you may enjoy the entire menu Monday-Saturday starting at 12 p.m. each day.
GUESS MATEO’S LANDING SPOT
Keep up the good work, La Manzanilla. After you told Mateo the Crocodile Bar will be torn down and Mateo will “get the boot” this month, the rumor mill has taken a turn for the positive. The latest has Mateo running the fine “Casa Mezcala”. Though a nicer rumor, Mateo promises he has no concrete plans for his next venture. Mateo will first consult Bill Gates from his busy schedule erradicating malaria–er, finding a way for Four Seasons Tamarindo to steal all the water from the Oxxo in La Manzanilla.

Reservations only allowed six days in advance of the event.*
*The only exception will be for those who purchase tickets to the mariachi night.
HOW TO MAKE A RESERVATION
*Send Mateo a text using WhatsApp
*Call Mateo. His phone seems to work these days
*Stop by the bar–during bar hours–and ask for Mateo, Cristal or Belen. Pro tip: The bar is not open before noon. Some folks have spotted Mateo raking sand at 7:30 a.m., but that was really Mateo’s evil twin who likes to sneak food [redacted for new 2024 policy to eliminate any trace of sarcasm from the limited-menu, 2-star restaurant]
*Go on the old message board and try to type in a 39-digit code and wait three hours as the carrier pigeons fly through the smoke signals
