Many years ago when Daniel saw me leading traditional Hawaiian hula at retreats in the cove at the south end of the beach, he asked me to come share with everyone on the beach in front of his home and office next to Lora Loka's. I was reluctant and stunned that it interested him, but I got to know the many layers that was Daniel and an annual tradition to give thanks to Creator was born there. From a handful of people this grew and grew to become a large non-denominational community spiritual experience and gathering.
The memorial to Daniel took place before I had returned this year and I wanted to call for another in front of his home, but the rocks nixed that. However there is now lovely sand in front of La Boheme and although he never liked to move far from home, I hope he won't mind in his new dimension!
I invite everyone who would like to join us this coming Monday, just before sunset, to once again express our love and gratitude to Daniel and to Creator as I explain and lead this simple sacred hula "Ka Uhane Nui" from the lineage of my hula kumu (teacher) Puna Kalama on Kauai.
Anyone who would like to speak and share their memories of Daniel before the Gratitude Hula is most welcome to do so.
