In 2020 the Telsat Anik F1R satellite reached end of life and all Shaw TV signals were transferred to either Anik F2 or Anik G1. New dual head equipment was required for Shaw dishes to receive signals from both satellites. In Mexico we relied on the Anik F2 satellite only.
The Telsat Anik F2 satellite launched in 2004 with an expected 15 year lifespan, had two of its four thrusters start to fail several years ago. They were hoping to keep it in proper orbit until 2025. However, the satellite developed a wobble causing numerous reception and retransmission problems in recent months. This, combined with a rapid depletion of the remaining fuel has forced Shaw and other companies to transfer services to other satellites as of the end of February 2024 (last week) as it reached end of life. All Shaw services are currently on Telsat Anik G1. The Anik G1 satellite does not broadcast south to Mexico. As a result, your Shaw equipment no longer receives Shaw TV signals. It was nice to have it this far south for as long as we did.
To receive Canadian and channels from other countries, consider signing up with IPTV or another Internet TV service provider. You may want to consider obtaining your own StarLink service or sharing a StarLink service with a nearby household to have sufficient download speed.
