The Irish-Mexican connection - The San Patricios Battelion, soldiers from Ireland and Irish-Americans, fought for the MEXICANS in the Mexican-American war between 1846 - 1848. John Riley, from Galway Ireland, led the battalion to switch sides and fight for the Mexicans . There is a war memorial that honors the San Patricios in San Angel, Mexico City.
