Walking the beach today, I saw some trash and went to pick it up. Then I noticed there was a big bird sitting there motionless and quiet. I noticed it had a broken wing.
I informed Professor Luis Eugenio Rivera Cerva in Autlan and then I called Gerardo Martinez, whose big heart always reaches out to any animal in need.
I picked him up in town and he collected the bird in a carton. It was very weak, he said. A juvenile Frigatebird, from Baja California, Gerardo informed me. We took him to Gerardos’ house and then Gerardo went to pick up some fish for it.
Gerardo told me it is his birthday today and that this was his greatest gift.
Now, we are driving to Melaque, to put the bird alone, on a bus to Autlan (free ride!), for the Professor to pick him up and care for him until it is well enough to be able to fly free again.
Best of luck to You Birdie!
And Thank YOU Professor Cerva and Gerardo for ALL you do!
