I laud Jeanne’s work and support of the ambulance crew this season. Upon her return this year, Jeanne instigated changes that have impacted the crew’s morale and cohesiveness, improving their service and commitment to the ambulance community and support.
The changes and reorganization are significant and deserve note, and please bear with me:
-Persons served by the ambulance crew are no longer charged. ( La Huerta provides fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc., and demands that any service provided is free)
- Donations are gratefully received, and the donner is given a receipt.
-Because the crew providing services are paid 800 pesos/event, donations given are no longer accepted as tips; instead, they are turned over to the ambulance fund in Mayan’s office.
-With a new dispatcher, services meted out to the crew are equitable, and all calls are attended, regardless of caller or person in need. One crew member can no longer receive all the benefits.
-The ambulance is consistently parked at the clinic, providing accessibility for all the crew and more efficient use of the fuel provided.
-An effective scorpion antivenom use protocol has been developed so crew members can administer and safeguard the antivenom stock.
*More changes are needed, but just this much has been positive for the crew. So, thank you, Jeanne. As I have always said, you can have a great ambulance, but you need a crew working as a team to provide consistently dependable, good emergency care.
I hope Jeanne can leave someone in charge with authority when she leaves. The down season is also busy; medical emergencies know no day, time, season, or reason, and the crew would appreciate it. Cruz
PS: *New and old (not in age) ambulance drivers should have an Ambulance Chauffer license. It isn’t just a little card earned after passing a test. The candidate receives extensive information and training for three days in Guadalajara that assists them in driving competently in numerous situations. It costs around 5,200 pesos per person and would cost over 20,000 pesos for four crew members. The license would also allow an ambulance driver to drive anywhere in Mexico without a problem. Currently, drivers only have a permit to drive in Jalisco.
I hope to attend and see many others at the Sunset Extravaganza event, which will also help support Peluditos, another worthy effort by worthy, wonderful people.
