What's special about it?
... I've checked out what someone else has to say about it, but first, let's be clear: the poses are the same, no matter whose method or system we follow.
Jonah Kest, a young, ashtanga/vinyasa teacher in California, decided to try Iyengar yoga, and this is what he had to say:
"Iyengar yoga is quite different from your modern day flow; instead of going quickly from one posture to the next, you hold each pose with mindful attention often using props such as blocks, straps, and chairs to refine the alignment and make the postures more accessible to all bodies.”
He goes on to state that the practice helped him “…reconnect with the finer details of the postures and the movements.”
Yoga, he says, “… is more than a shape; it is the state of mind that we cultivate within …. The sensations were different from my usual practice, but I felt terrific…”
Mr Iyengar has said that “It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self, and intelligence.”
As a teacher of teachers, he cultivated the notion that we teach to the students rather than to a syllabus; therefore, the level of difficulty and the length of the holdings will always be tailored to the abilities of the students in any given class.
So ...I invite you to join us on the mat,
Monday and Thursday mornings
9:00 - 10:30.
