The water committee also posted on Facebook that they do not have enough money to pay for electricity to keep the pumps running which could lead to CFE cutting them off. I don’t know if CFE would actually do this, but it is concerning.

From the water committee:
We appreciate you sharing this information, as the concern about water quality is legitimate and also a priority for our Committee.

We want to point out that the salinity problem in La Manzanilla is not new; it is a situation that our community has been facing for many years, particularly in the Crucero and Campo de Fútbol areas.

That is precisely why we have maintained monitoring of our wells. During the dry season, we recorded levels of approximately 6,000 ppm in the well at the Football Field and 4,800 ppm in the Moyo well.

In our last measurement on September 22, the results were:

💧 Soccer Field: 3,930 ppm.
💧 Moyo Well: 2,210 ppm.

Although there is a significant decrease that coincides with the rainy season, we recognize that salinity levels remain high and that this does not mean the problem is solved.

For this reason, the Ejido Board of Directors and the Ejido Drinking Water Committee have been working to secure new sources of water supply. We currently have a well ready to be equipped, but we lack the resources to do so because 50% of the users are not fulfilling their payment obligations. With these two new sources of supply, we are seeking not only to increase the quantity of water but also to improve its quality. The second well was just completed this week, and the municipality, the state, and the Ejido are all contributing to this project.

We share the residents' concern: it's not just about having water in our homes, but about working to ensure that it is of increasingly better quality.
