As this fire was way up the hill with no road access this is the kind of terrain left to the bomberos from Melaque and they were called in but do not know if they came but cannot see any smoke this morning!

And the fires might have been started by someone as I caught a guy lighting one yesterday in front of my house! He was questioned by the police after another incident and they are now aware of his actions!

Today we are having another volunteer meeting at 10:30 at the bookstore and will discuss what has been ordered as far as equipment and how to pinpoint fires and an alert system on what’s up!

And thanks to all who came to my aid yesterday! Very grateful!

Is this initiative ongoing? ( a plan to organize local volunteers)?

Just bumping this message up, as I haven't heard about this initiative lately. Is it still in the works?

We formed a small group of 5 volunteers after the fires at Toros house and on the mountain! We met several times and bought some fire combatant items that are stored at the bookstore! Several of the group passed away over the summer and we are now looking for someone to come forward and re-group! Any volunteers!

Oops, didn't mean to alarm anyone - this is an old post I bumped, looking for something relevant about fires. The question still applies, however.

I have some experience on a volunteer fire department. I would gladly volunteer here in La manzanilla. Greg
