And yet another life is saved by the ambulance team!

We haven't mentioned much about this service call because we were waiting to find out the final results. Last week we received an urgent call about an elderly man having a heart attack. Two members of the team and one trainee rushed to the house and began stabilizing efforts, but things didn't look good. The man was rushed to IMSS and arrived just minutes before he would have died! The doctors at IMSS decided it would be best to transfer the patient to Guadalajara for surgery, where two stents were positioned in his arterial artery. He went from near death with one artery 100% blocked and another 40% blocked to--a new life--thanks to the ambulance team. And that's not all! Since the patient had to spend a few days in the ICU and another couple of days in the hospital, he and his wife were worried about how to get home to La Manzanilla. One team member, our wonderful Chuy Reyes Perez, offered to drive to Guadalajara to bring them home. And that's where the patient is now--safe at home, gently recovering. I'm so proud to be a part of this wonderful team!
No hemos mencionado mucho sobre esta llamada de servicio porque estábamos esperando para averiguar los resultados finales. La semana pasada recibimos una llamada urgente sobre un anciano que tenía un ataque al corazón. Dos miembros del equipo y un aprendiz se apresuraron a la casa y comenzaron a estabilizar los esfuerzos, pero las cosas no se veían bien. ¡El hombre fue llevado a IMSS y llegó unos minutos antes de que hubiera muerto! Los médicos del IMSS decidieron que lo mejor sería transferir al paciente a Guadalajara para la cirugía, donde dos stents fueron colocados en su arteria arterial. Pasó de estar cerca de la muerte con una arteria 100% bloqueada y otra 40% bloqueada a una nueva vida gracias al equipo de ambulancia. ¡Y eso no es todo! Dado que el paciente tuvo que pasar unos días en la UCI y otro par de días en el hospital, él y su esposa estaban preocupados por cómo llegar a casa a La Manzanilla. Un miembro del equipo, nuestro maravilloso Chuy Reyes Pérez, se ofreció a conducir a Guadalajara para traerlos a casa. Y ahí es donde el paciente está ahora - seguro en casa, recuperándose suavemente. ¡Estoy muy orgullosa de ser parte de este maravilloso equipo!

The elderly man, who received such wonderful care was Tom Oberg. His wife, Mary Jo, gratefully wants thank Dr Marta who noticed his distress and called 315-112-4048. A dispacher answered and engaged the rescue team. In minutes, we were whisked off to a lifesaving hospital. Francisco Jr, Chuy and Michelle, stayed with Tom and I, translating spanish and describing procedures. We are so grateful to this team and willingly donate 2,000 pesos which, for each run, covers Gas, Maintenance and minor pay for the attending staff. We know no one is turned away who calls that number, because this is a community endeavor. A real shout out to Jeannie, who through many years of trial, has carried on the dream of life-giving service to the community of LaManzanilla.
El anciano que recibió una atención tan maravillosa fue Tom Oberg. Su esposa, Mary Jo, quiere agradecer a la Dra. Marta, quien notó su angustia y llamó al 315-112-4048. Un despachador respondió y contactó al equipo de rescate. En cuestión de minutos nos llevaron rápidamente a un hospital que nos salvó la vida. Francisco Jr, Chuy y Michelle se quedaron con Tom y yo traduciendo español y describiendo procedimientos. Estamos muy agradecidos con este equipo y de buena gana donamos 2,000 pesos que por cada recorrido cubren la gasolina. Mantenimiento y remuneración menor del personal asistente. Sabemos que nadie que llame a ese número será rechazado, porque este es un esfuerzo comunitario. Un verdadero reconocimiento a Jeannie, quien a través de muchos años de pruebas ha llevado adelante el sueño de dar vida a la comunidad de LaManzanilla.

Oh my goodness!! Thanks to the hard work of Jeanne C. and her team of trained responders for getting this service in place. Luckily, we will get to see our wonderful neighbour Tom again! Sending our heartfelt best wishes to Tom for a speedy recovery. We hope to see him out walking again soon. 💕
