ATM

Has anyone else from western Canada had trouble using the ATM here and/or at the ATM on the base on the way into Melaque? We've tried both places with no luck. It takes our Credit Card though...not the best solution.

I think you can load your credit card with cash and then withdraw it without interest.

Actually. There is a fee on Visa for taking money out even if it is your own surplu that you deposited. You can only use that money for purchase without paying a fee.

I have used both the ATM at the Delegado and at the Banjercito (Melaque) for several years. (Most recently approx 6 weeks ago.) I have a Canadian TD Bank debit card.

Perhaps your card is with a BC credit union?

It is. Is there a story about the Credit Union? We’ve been using our cards here for upwards of 15 years with no problems. Now ??? It’s going to take a lot of money managing without a debit card! I’ll check with the Credit Union though.

There are, of course three banks with ATMs in Melaque to try your Credit Union debit card. BBVA, Intercam, and Banamex all within 150 meters of each other.

I am from BC and was not been able to get money out of my BMO account at the delgado ATM. A few times it wouldn't take my card at all; but then 2 times last week it did. Fortunately I kept the receipt which said I had received nothing because both times the money was subtracted from my account!! I finally got hold of BMO head office and was told it would take about 2 weeks to locate and verify with the ATM. The ATM would give me money from my Manulife Bank account though.

We have fixed our problem, thanks to a friend. We simply cleaned the chip & the black strip, inserted the card, and all was well. I just thought there might someone else who encounters this problem.

I just rubbed my cotton shirt on the card. It was what I was wearing at the time. It responded right away. (The message I got when it wasn't working was black printing on grey, and I didn't get any further.)
