Church Bells

Does anyone know why the church bells rang for a very long time just now? Still ringing!

My landlord Hector told me it was a 25 year anniversary of ?? (something to do with the office of the Pope) so the bell was rung for 25 minutes. The bell ringer was very tired after about 15 minutes so a helper came by to give him a break for a few minutes!

That is correct we have begun the Jubilee. The 2025 Jubilee officially opened on December 24, 2024 at 7pm, with the rite of Opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter by the Holy Father. The year will end in Rome on January 6, 2026.

So maybe the first mass of the Jubilee?
