Hola, Robin. I believe removing the rocks from the beach was a local resident effort in which many neighbors were involved along with the 'Sendero Playa' residents, originating from Colima.
This group saw how La Manzanilla's tourism and economy were greatly affected by people's inability to use and enjoy our beachfront. I remember not being able to walk safely on the beach. And the rocks weren't moving away, nor were anyone or officials addressing the problem.
Yes, some rocks had been removed, but they came right back. A durable solution was needed.
So, machinery and drivers were hired, and the community was invited to participate in a beach rock clean-up. It took days and weeks.
Thanks to this project, our beach is beautiful and usable again, and our pueblo's financial health has been saved.
However, I believe the Sendero Playa residents are still in debt over the effort. I will check and see if money help is still needed to cover the debt. This group should be commemorated and not burdened for such a selfless act, committed to saving our community and its tourism. Cruz
