RE: Sexual assault

I was away for a few days, so I might have missed info on this message board, but I heard today (from a very reliable local source) that there has been a sexual assault on the beach here in LM and also in Melaque.
According to the source, who has already posted on the Spanish speaking social media, the perpetuators are not local.
So please be more vigilant at this time and consider to not walk on the beach alone, especially if you are a woman.

Thank you for alerting us all to this assault. As a single woman in La Manz it is very disturbing. I'm wondering if there is any information about the perpetrator? I have only recently started walking on the beach at night and will certainly not do so in the future. It is sad to hear of this happening on the beach here. I was only telling a friend in England yesterday how very safe it is here. I really don't like to revise that view; I do still feel safe and feel this is a one off. Nevertheless, it is disturbing
Was a police report made? Has there been any follow up or any other information?

This is very disturbing to hear! I had heard rumors and hoped it was not true. I wish we had more info about the incident and how we know that the perpetuators are not local!!?? I cherish the safety I once felt running on the brecha and beach sola. Now I can not feel safe alone. Just so angry and saddened!!!
Whoever is involved and knows the facts for sure please report it to the Delgado and the police ASAP. If it has not been done already. Things like this in this village over the last 25 years I’ve been here have always been looked after if reported to the authorities. They as much as us do not want this kind of behaviour and usually resolve it really fast.

I wish I could tell you more, but I, personally, do not know more. Maybe there was more information on the Spanish speaking social media.
It was an attempt to rape, which goes under the heading of Sexual Assault. What I heard, from the very reliable local source, the woman involved was saved by her husband and the public intervening and the perpetrators fled the scene.
So it is a good question - how do we know they were not local? I trust that the person telling us, in person, that they were not local, that he would know.
These type of behaviors are not tolerated in and around La Manzanilla, so I doubt it will happen again.
Nevertheless, we all have to be vigilant, wherever we are in this World.
I think we all need to recognize that this town isn't completely safe. I realize that many of us come from cities that are much less safe than here, but we need to use caution and common sense as usual. It has not been clarified as to where the attempted sexual assault took place. I have been trying to get ahold of Swazo who owns Bahia Azul. Apparently he has the correct details. If anyone knows him and can find out when and where the assault took place please let us know.
