Thanks for the heads up, Raul! Looks like we might have to look for a new bank account in the fall. I’ve heard of sporadic issues with transfers but hard to tell if it’s because of this or just regular day to day issues so far.

Intercam has informed me that U.S. social security checks should not be affected as they are directly deposited as pesos.

Partial translation from article in El CEO, July 1, 2025 referring to CI Banco and Intercam.

"According to U.S. indictments, these institutions facilitated the laundering of approximately $2.1 million for cartels such as the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), the Gulf Cartel, the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, and the Sinaloa Cartel between 2021 and 2024. The transactions were allegedly carried out on behalf of companies based in Mexico, according to the Treasury report."

In 2023, I started making significant cash withdrawls from my Intercam account to pay for the renovations on our casa--the manager at Intercam questioned me about the purpose of the funds prior to presenting the funds. She confirmed the address, and asked if I minded if someone at the branch confirmed the construction. I was impressed with Intercam's due diligence.

According to the El Ceo article the allegations are for aggregate "money laundering" attributed to CI Banco & Intercam of $2.1M USD over 3 years.

Perhaps the US Treasury Dept motivations are questionable.

Transfers from Wise to Intercam are no longer working. I tried to send money to my own account today and this is what it said:

For giggles, I just tried initiating a transfer to my Intercam account through Remitly. And failed.

What I found was that Remitly did not list Intercam from its dropdown list of available recipient banks. In the past, it has been an easy, 5 minute, process to send money to an account at Intercam.

There is some likelihood that it is user error, but I have tried for 20 minutes now, and that is ample time for the user to remember how to do it. I concur with Spencer that the Intercam system is not working at this moment.

Has anyone tried sending a wire transfer in PESOs from a US bank. I understand that they may not want any appearance or chance of laundering. What about a straight peso deposit? Crossing my fingers and toes that this gets straightened out.

In the past, what has happened is auditing, a sizeable fine, a sincere apology, then back to business as usual.
