Road from LM to Melaque
Posted by TerriLM on February 23, 2026, 10:35 am
We could not return to LM yesterday, so spent the night in Barra. Drove back to LM this morning. There are 3 burnt out large vehicles along the mountain road. Trucks (F150 size) & cars can go around these vehicles with care. A bus or semi would not be able to get past. The 1st vehicle going south is the hardest to maneuver around because it is at a sharp curve in the road. The other 2 large vehicles are easier to get around. Please be careful, drive slowly if you must venture out.

A trench has been dug across the highway to Melaque so there is no longer any access. Looks like we’ll need to sit tight for a couple days.

Does anyone know if there is a route from La Manzanilla to the Manzanillo airport ? Our Alaska Airlines flight leaves tomorrow Tuesday 2/24/26 at 4:51 pm. Or has anyone heard that someone has successfully reached the Manzanillo airport from La Manzanilla today?
Some have suggested a morning boat to Barra de Navidad then taxi the rest of the way. Check with Ever (beside IMIX) or at the fish coop if anyone is willing and able for the boat trip. Once in Barra the hope would be that the rest of the route is open.
Or reschedule your flight and enjoy a few more days in La Manzanilla. SpencerC/Moderator
Spencer - I have family flying in to Manzanillo on Wednesday evening. I’m not sure what to tell them. Do you have any sources telling when the road might be repaired?
Looks like it’s fixed (for now). The army or national guard is there and the trench is filled for one lane traffic. The situation changes so fast that all I can say is have some contingencies planned in case it closes again.
