I was late to the party with AIC (liked the MTV hits but never actually listened to the albums until a few years ago) but I've never really bought into the common opinion that "Dirt" towers above everything else they did. "Jar of Flies" + "Sap" has that nice acoustic vibe and since I'm not into metal that's part of the appeal for me but I honestly think the material is really consistent (even dig the instrumentals). And the self titled album is basically just as good as "Dirt" IMO- it just suffers from being overlong.
I personally like "One Foot" and "Stereopathetic" quite a bit (though I was definitely disappointed when I first got them after getting "Mellow Gold" and "Odelay") but can't really fault anyone for disliking them, given how goofy and tossed off both albums feel. Would take either over "Sea Change" any day though, not to mention Beck's last few albums (he really seems to have fallen the #### off).
Maybe I was a bit hard on Vedder- he mainly bugs me on ballads and/opr when he's really trying to emote, he's a decent enough screamer on PJ's rockers. But yeah, even though I'm not much of a PJ fan, I've been into "Vitalogy" since the beginning and to a lesser extent, follow up "No Code" (which is also on the list).
