I agree with most of that Kurosawa top 10, but I would switch out High and Low for something else, probably The Bad Sleep Well. I recall that you don't like that one or Red Beard (which I also probably like more than High and Low but less than the others on the list). I haven't seen Kagemusha in a long time so that might be the other candidate).
That's a good Hitchcock top 10, and again mine would be close to it. There are a bunch I'd have to rewatch to be confident. I'd be most likely to bump Rebecca (but I haven't seen this in a long time) and maybe The Birds. I'd include Frenzy and possibly either Sabotage or Shadow of a Doubt. Something else might move up as well.
I watched Manila in the Claws of Light last weekend. Anyone seen that one? It puts you in its place and time as convincingly as any movie I've seen but it's one of the those movies that spends the entire running time grinding the characters into the dirt. I know that's supposed to be part of the moral urgency maybe it could have used some humor? It's absorbing though, and I definitely recommend it.
