I kind of already made this point in what I said to BD, thinking more about Art School Confidential it really isn't that great but I think the style and humor is entertaining. I will stick up for the murder mystery though. Maybe I'd feel different if I read the comic and then watched the movie with that inserted into it, which does make a mess of the story. But the jokes about Art School, while I liked them, are riffing on stuff that was already in Ghost World which is obviously a much better movie. The idea that being a serial killer will make you more famous than being a modern artist and that women will fall in love with you while you're in prison is...demonstrably true...and I guess I find it funnier in a movie than I do in real life. I do think that it was done at the expense of really being able to see the main character as an actual person who's fate we were expected to care about.
